Timbits Softball (St. Andrews Community Club program)
Timbits Softball is a revolutionary way of introducing the sport of Softball to children. Activities are included which foster the involvement of ALL players, including players with high and low skill levels. The child will experience excitement, enjoyment and success. Activities and lead-up games are patterned after informal playground games that promise an hour of FUN and LOTS OF ACTION. Participants will go home at the end of the day happy and tired while improving their fitness level.
The Timbits program is specifically tailored towards the needs of our youngest players (aged 4-9) and aims to enhance players’ and coaches’ first experience with the game of baseball.
This is a “learn to play” or t-ball type program.
The season starts early May (depending on weather) and will conclude mid-end of June.
Rain practices will be held in the Arena (when available)
Nights of play are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 pm – 7pm.
Grand Slam (www.sasbaseball.com, St. Andrews/Selkirk hardball, North Winnipeg Baseball Association)
The Grand Slam Program is the follow-up program for Rally Cap and is for players aged 7-9 years and is designed to develop skills in our young players by reducing team sizes and encouraging repeated “touches” of the baseball in both practices and games.
At this level, teams of 8-9 players (max) will play a more organized game of baseball. Coaches teach/help players learn the fundamentals of baseball. The primary focus is still about having “FUN!” Teams will play against other teams in the North Winnipeg catchment area and travel to Winnipeg for “away” games is required.
The season starts early May (depending on weather) and will conclude mid-end of June.
Nights of play are Mondays and Wednesdays, with a game start time of 6:30pm.
There is a one-day Jamboree (tournament) held around the middle June. There is no entry fee for North Winnipeg teams to participate in this tournament.
Girls Softball
U9 and up…
“A” level baseball
“A” level baseball, or club level baseball, aims to enhance both individual and team skill development in a “fair play” environment. Good sportsmanship and teamwork, with less emphasis on competition, are essential to the success of the “A” ball programs.
Mosquito – “A” level
The Mosquito program is for players aged 10 and 11 years. At Mosquito level, players start pitching and, for the most part, regular baseball rules will be followed. Teams must field 9 players, but all players (including those on the bench) will bat. Teams will play against other teams in the North Winnipeg catchment area and travel to Winnipeg for “away” games is required.
At this level, players are also able to try out for the AA level – a more competitive level. Tryouts are open to athletes in the North Winnipeg catchment area. The AA season lasts longer than the A ball season and depending on the success of the team will end early to mid July. For more information refer to the “AA” section below.
Pee Wee – “A” level
The Pee Wee program is for players aged 12 and 13 years. This level is similar to the Mosquito level.
The season starts early May (depending on weather) and ends the end of June with area playoffs. There will be a city championship at the end of June/beginning of July for those teams that advance.
At this age, players can also tryout for the AAA or AA levels. AAA and AA teams will be made up of athletes from the North Winnipeg catchment area. For more information refer to the “AAA” and “AA” sections below. The AA season will end early to mid July. The AAA season will run into August.
Bantam – “A” level
The Bantam program is for players aged 14 and 15 years.
The season starts early May (depending on weather) and ends the end of June with a city championship being held end of June/beginning of July.
Advanced players can also tryout for the AAA or AA levels. AAA and AA teams will be made up of athletes from the North Winnipeg catchment area. For more information refer to the “AAA” and “AA” sections below. The AA season will end early to mid July. The AAA season will run into August.
Midget – “A” level
The Midget program is for players aged 16 to 18 years.
The season starts early May (depending on weather) and ends the end of June with a city championship being held end of June/beginning of July.
Advanced players can also tryout for the AAA or AA levels. AAA and AA teams will be made up of athletes from the North Winnipeg catchment area. For more information refer to the “AAA” and “AA” sections below. The AA season will end early to mid July. The AAA season will run into August.
“AA” level baseball (all ages as above)
“AA” level baseball is a more competitive level of baseball than the club level or “A” ball program. At the “AA” level, a greater commitment from athletes is required so as to further develop individual and team skills and strategies. There will be greater focus on competition than at the “A” ball level.
Experienced coaches will determine player positions throughout the season based on individual strengths. Fair play is still in effect through regular season. Coaches may play stronger players during playoffs and championships.
The “AA” season starts early May (depending on weather) and could end mid to late July, depending on whether teams qualify for provincial championships. If successful at the provincial championships, there is also a possibility of Western Canada championships which would further extend the season.
With the possibility of travel to out of town tournaments or to championships as noted above, costs to play at the “AA” level will be higher than playing at the “A” ball level.
Players that are interested at playing at the “AA” level, must attend league tryouts and be selected to the “AA” team. For more information on tryouts, refer to the “Tryout” tab.
All players selected to a “AA” team will be a North Winnipeg Marauder.
“AAA” level baseball (all ages as above)
The “AAA” baseball program is the most competitive and highest level of baseball that a young athlete in Manitoba can play. “AAA” baseball requires a significant time and financial commitment from players and their families for up to 6 months of the year, depending on the success of the team.
The “AAA” teams start practicing early to mid-April with game play starting end of April-early May (depending on weather). The season will could conclude mid to late August, depending on whether teams succeed past the provincial championships. If a team is successful at the provincial championships, there is also a possibility of attending a Western or National championship and representing Manitoba.
Players that are interested at playing at the “AAA” level, must attend league tryouts and be selected to the “AAA” team. For more information on tryouts, refer to the “Tryout” tab.
All players selected to a “AAA” team will be a North Winnipeg Pirate.
