Harper Government Supports Major Renovations to
St. Andrews Community Club Arena 02/02/2010
St. Andrews area residents will benefit from upgrades to the St. Andrews Community Club Arena thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification along with Don Forfar, Reeve of the RM of St. Andrews, announced funding for new dressing rooms, showers, and other upgrades to the St. Andrews Arena.
“Our Government continues to invest in recreation and fitness through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program. This program puts Canadians to work and encourages greater participation in physical education and use of recreational facilities,” said James Bezan, Member of Parliament for Selkirk-Interlake. “These upgrades will allow greater use of the arena to develop the communities’ figure skating and hockey programs, and further promote recreation and fitness for old and young alike.”
“On behalf of the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews, I would like to thank our Member of Parliament, James Bezan and the Federal Government for this grant for the St. Andrews Community Club.” said Reeve Don Forfar of the RM of St. Andrews. “Our community club is the heart and soul for generations of families in our community. This expansion is the dream of our volunteers; a dream that would never be possible without the funding from the Government of Canada. Again, thank you!"
The funding of $164,131.00 comes through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Outdoor Rink Project
The New Outdoor Rink is now open for business!!! The first skaters started using our new rink on December 23rd.
The previous rink had deteriorated to the point where it was unsafe and major reconstruction was needed.
The new rink will has a seal coat base that could be used for other sports when the winter season is over. The space occupied by the old rink has become parking space and baseball diamond #5 is no longer available for baseball.
The outdoor rink has been a very popular feature at our Community Club and we expect that will continue. This is a large project for us and we invite the community to help. Although the rink is up, we still need to raise the money to pay for this large project. Donations can be made and a tax receipt obtained from the RM of St. Andrews. For more information, please contact any of our Board of Directors or join us at the next board meeting.
