New for 2018 – Rookies Program
With the winding down of the Can Skate program at the club, there is a need for a program which will teach young players the fundamentals of hockey and ringette before entering into their chosen sport for a full season. We are introducing our Rookies program for players making that first step into hockey or ringette.
We will be following the curriculum set out in the Canadian Tire First Shift program- http://www.firstshift.ca/
The first half will be focused on the foundations of movement on the ice: balance, proper skating stride, gliding, stopping and turning. The second half will expand on those concepts plus introduce shooting and passing. Every session is compromised of several learning stations and fun games for the players.
Garry Preachuk will be the head coach for this program. He was the one of the head coaches of that program when it was in our area.
It will be suitable for kids interested in either hockey or ringette who are between 4 and 10 years old as of September 1, 2018.
This program is geared towards kids who have not played either sport before. Kids with previous hockey or ringette experience will be very bored.
Saturday’s from 12-1pm starting Oct. 13. Second half starts Jan. 12th.
The program runs 8 hours in each half of the season.
Best deal for registration is to buy a membership to get the reduced rate.

Full equipment list:
Helmet with cage or full face shield
Pants ( recommend suspenders to hold them up rather than the belt they come with)
Jock/Jill strap ( recommend the shorts type with velcro to attach the hockey socks)
Skates ( proper fit is very important. ill -fitting skates makes it almost impossible for the child to balance properly). Don’t forget to get them sharpened!
